WHS: Contractors

Church Council and relevant staff within the Synod office are responsible to ensure:

  • Effective systems are implemented to manage the work of contractors;
  • All Contractor’s relevant documentation is sighted and photocopied (if regular Contractor, annually):
    • Appropriate Trade License (eg. electrician, plumber, etc)
    • Public Liability Insurance (current policy with appropriate level of cover)
    • Workers Compensation Insurance
    • Competency Certificates
    • Any relevant training undertaken for hazardous situations;
  • Induction is relevant to the Contractor’s work;
  • Asbestos Register be made available to the Contractor
  • Their own employees/volunteers and other persons in the workplace are not put at risk by a Contractor or Sub-Contractor working on the site;
  • Any breach by the Contractor or sub-contractor is immediately addressed;
  • For major work:
    • Full consultation has occurred with church employees and volunteers and the Synod office about the proposed work;
    • Any issues or concerns raised during consultation are adequately addressed and reported to the Project Manager (where required);
    • Effective monitoring occurs whilst work is being undertaken;
    • Regular briefings are held with the Contractor  and that minutes are taken;
    • All issues such as prohibited areas, fencing, asbestos management, access, egress, identified walkways, dust and noise control, emergency procedures etc. are included in briefing sessions;
    • Any changes to contractual agreements are formally minuted.
    • Project documentation and briefing minutes are maintained.
